Ribbon Factory  Phoenix Initiative, Priory Place, Coventry

Complex Design Projects

The Grade II Listed Ribbon Factory is a late C18th building, with an adjoining Master’s House within the ruins of the mediaeval Priory. The building had been derelict for more than 10 years and bringing it back to life with 6 loft apartments and a restaurant at ground floor meant inserting a new skeletal frame and taking extreme precautions in building on top of mediaeval foundations. Modern interventions alongside the historic characterise the conversion within the multi-award winning Coventry Phoenix scheme.

The building was described by the City's Conservation Architect, George Demidowitz, as “ ….. in a very sorry state with no prospect of being brought back into use.  The excellent conservation is a tribute to the efforts of the designers and an example of how to provide imaginative and practical solutions to bring these sites back into full use and to integrate them into larger regeneration projects.”
